News from Rex

Hello All! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year! You're probably not going to believe me, but we actually had a WHITE CHRISTMAS here in central Texas!!! And yes it was snow not fog or ice, real honest to gosh snow! It was quite exciting. The weather so far this year has been interesting to say the least, but nothing too unusual for Texas. You know they say if you don't like the weather wait five minutes and it will change.....they're not lying. :)

We took a little time off by not going to the stock shows so that we could get a little break and give the horses some down time. They are all back in work now so hopefully in February we will be making it to a few shows. We also have a new corgi who will be going to her first official show in March. We will get pictures of her on here soon. I must say I am teaching her everything I know so she is going to be great! Her name is Lexi which is short for Twin Oaks Rachel Alexandra. If she can fill the shoes of her name sake, you better fasten your seat belts because it's going to be a wild and fun ride!

Foaling season is here and we are looking forward to our newadditions this march and april. We hope everyone has healthy mares and babies this year and enjoys how much each new foal means to this world.

On a more somber note we hope everyone continues to keep Haiti and all the families who have family members there or abroad in their thoughts and prayers.

Well, I guess I better get back to work, I still have a lot to teach Lexi, so until next time remember to take time to smell the roses.... or horses.... or cows.... well you get the drift. Rex

Hello everyone and Happy Thanksgiving! I hope all is well with you and your families. We have been very busy here lately. We got over a foot of rain within a couple of weeks so we had to work in lots of mud this fall, but we are not complaining, just glad the stock tanks are all full again!

We went on one of the neatest vacations ever in September! We went to the Riddles Elephant Sanctuary in Greenbriar Arkansas and it was absolutely awesome. We got to have a hands on experience with several elephants and met some wonderful people. If you are looking for a great weekend get away that is fun and educational, this is it. Check out their website at www.elephantsanctuary.org for more information.

Becky and Eclipse made their debut at the Margarita Classic in Waco on Halloween day. They did awesome and are making a great team. Kevin showed Eclipse at the APHA world show and ended up 8th overall, not bad for Eclipse's second show. She has a wonderful future ahead of her. We are going to give the horses a few days off while we get ready for the holidays then it will be back to work for everyone to get ready for the stock shows. We would like to thank Lynn Palm, Kevin Dukes and Robin Cole for all their help during the world show, we couldn't have done it without you.

We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and we will post new pictures soon. If you are looking for a new horse for next years show season, please give us a call as we have several to choose from. Until next time -"live long and prosper" - REX

"Hello All! I hope your summer is going as well as ours. We are finally getting some rain here in Texas so it's actually not 105 degrees today.

We have had a very successful show season so far. Tobey was shown at the APHA World Show June 30th and did exceptionally well. He ended up placing 12th overall in heeling and then they won the team roping sweepstakes! GO TOBEY!! Tobey will be getting a few weeks of vacation and then it will be back to work for him.

Becky has been driving Eclipse in preparation for the November APHA World Show. They are both doing outstanding and we can't wait for their debut in November. Legs has been off for the first part of the summer and is now getting ready for his first fall event in Oklahoma the end of August.

Thumper will hopefully be showing at the world show in November in hunter under saddle and trail. He has been growing like a weed so we have not been pushing him. Robin Cole will be showing him in the HUS class and Darrell Latham will be showing him in the trail class.

Our two jersey cows are fresh, so we have loads of fresh milk and will be making cheese soon. Becky is very excited to be starting this new venture into cheese making. We will keep you posted on how it goes. So we have loads of stuff going on and as always we look forward to seeing you at the shows!

Good luck and we'll see you down the road!" Rex

Tobey has been doing awesome this year and placed high up in all three roping classes at the San Antonio Stock Show and the Apha shows in Waco. He is being aimed at the 2009 World Show, so keep an eye out for him at a show near you.

Eclipse is in training with Kevin Dukes and is loving learning to drive. She has settled into that new event like she has always done it. She will be aimed toward the APHA Fall World Championship Show with Becky in amateur driving and Kevin in the open driving.

Legs has just started up his eventing schedule and won dressage with an impressive 24 at his first event of the year. His next show is in April in Louisiana and he will be moving up a level to the novice category. If you are looking for a new event horse, please keep legs in mind and call us for more information.

Well, we are finally getting some rain here in Texas and are very thankful for that. Hopefully we will continue to get the much needed moisture and may we all try to remember that through these trying times, emotionally and financially, God will always bring us through in better shape than we started out in.

Thanks for your support and please come by and say hi if you see us at the shows and we look forward to doing business with you.

Hello everyone, Man how time flies when your having fun! We have had a very busy and successful fall of showing. Legs ended his fall season with a first place finish at Greenwood a second place finish in Louisiana and a third overall at the Championships for the year. Way to go Legs and Stephanie!

Tobey had his roping debut at an APHA show in October with Jim Watts showing him. He did awesome!  He got several points and did really well, he will be showing at the Ft. Worth Stock Show in January and the San Antonio Stock Show in February. I will get pictures up on the website soon.

Well we are going to wind down for a couple of months and get ready for the holidays. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and keep our troops that are away from their families in your thoughts and prayers.

I'll keep you posted on any new happenings and look forward to our next chat - Rex

Hello everyone, I hope all is going well with you and yours so far this year. It has been very busy here at Twin Oaks Ranch. Oh, by the way, I'm Rex, the ranch manager here at Twin Oaks.

We have had a very successful spring and summer with our horses. LEGS won his division at the USEA sanctioned show at Greenwood Farm. Way to go LEGS and Stepanie!! RUGGED PAINTED LEGACY and UNPAINTED LARK made their show debuts at the APHA World Show and although they didn't win, we are extremely proud of their performances and know they will only get better with age.

Now for the most important news, I went on vacation!!! Actually my humans think they went on vacation and took me with them, but we all know it was the other way around. I went to the Big Thompson and Poudre Rivers in Colorado and man oh man was it fun. I let my humans pretend they could fish first, then I got in the river and showed them how it was done. You just jump on in and dip your nose in the water and when the little fishes least expect it.....WHAM you grab one in your mouth!! OK OK, so I didn't catch any either, but you never would have known now would you?!

Well, we are winding up for the fall shows now and have a busy schedule ahead of us. RUGGED PAINTED LEGACY and UNPAINTED LARK will be hitting the hunter/jumper shows and LOLA will be making her debut at one of the November shows. LEGS will show again at Greenwood, then he goes to two more events before he gets a break for the holidays.

Please keep checking back and I will let you know how things are going here on the ranch.... Rex
